Expertise, logistics and performance

Located on one of the busiest transport corridors in the region, the project required meticulous planning and execution to ensure traffic impact was kept to a minimum.
To maintain network availability, all works were carried out exclusively at night, between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

Each intervention took place under full traffic closures in the direction concerned, providing optimal working conditions for our teams while ensuring compliance with the highest health, safety, and environmental standards.

A two-phase maintenance operation

The contract included:

  • Removal of the existing expansion joints;
  • Asphalt rehabilitation over a width of 10 metres on each side of the joint gap;
  • Supply and installation of new WRB expansion joints;
  • Installation of a total of 164 linear meters of expansion joints.

The works were delivered in two key phases:

Phase 1: Joint removal and asphalt rehabilitation

The first phase involved removing the existing joints and resurfacing the pavement around the structures. Thanks to careful preparation and efficient site organization, this stage was completed in a single night for each structure.

Phase 2: Installation of new WRB expansion joints

The second phase focused on the installation of new WRB expansion joints, with individual joint lines reaching lengths of up to 21 metres. Drawing on extensive expertise in bridge maintenance and expansion joint systems, Freyssinet’s teams successfully installed one complete joint line per night, enabling the project schedule to be met without compromise.

 

The success of this project was driven by detailed logistical planning, seamless coordination between stakeholders, and the commitment of highly skilled site teams. This combination ensured the works were completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.

This operation demonstrates Freyssinet’s ability to deliver complex expansion joint replacement projects on heavily trafficked road infrastructure, combining technical excellence, optimized logistics, and rapid execution within highly constrained intervention windows.
